Obituary. Lindley M. Stafford, died at home of father Daniel H. Stafford 4.5 miles south of New Castle on Jan. 3, aged 24 years, 3 months, 7 days. Buried at Rich Square. Member New Castle IOOF Lodge: resolutions signed by Benj. Shirk, W.F. Boor, R.B. Carr. Funeral preached by Francis W. Thomas.
Dunreith: "Mr. Amasa Harrold met with a serious accident last Friday while out hunting. It appears that some one had left a small particle of cotton in the gun after cleaning, and this caught fire and remained in the barrel of the gun after Mr. Harrold had discharged it: when Mr. Harrold was pouring the powder down in reloading it ignited and communicated to the can, which burst, with nearly half a pound of powder in it. Harrold says it lifted him up and put him down about ten feet away; one side of his face and eye are very severely burned, but it is a marvel that he escaped with such slight injury considering the amount of powder ignited."

Obituary of Isaac Baker. Born in Va., ca. 1793. Moved to Henry County ca. 1824, settling on farm on which he died. Became Freemason in Va 57 years ago-faithful member. New Castle Masonic Lodge resolutions signed by Joshua Holland and Robt. H. Polk.

Calvin Buffkins, son of Jesse of Cadiz, killed last Monday by boiler explosion near Rushville.
Mrs. Catherine Woodward, wife of Asahel, died Jan. 13, "after a protracted and very painful illness." Born in Maryland, Dec. 1, 1792. Moved to Washington Co., Ky., with parents when very young. To Indiana Territory, 1811. Married 1815 and moved to Preble County, Ohio. Settled just north of New Castle July 31, 1819. Lived on same farm 52 years.
Jesse B. Wilson, son of John and Hannah, died near Greens Fork, Wayne County, Dec. 28, 1870, aged 23 years, 10 months, 29 days. Many relatives in Henry County. Signed by Wm. C. Bond.
Spiceland: "Thomas Newby jr & Emery Bogue have purchased an interest in the mercantile house of Foster, Bogue, & Co. The style of the firm is now Bogue & Newby."
"N.H. Ballenger has sold his property at Dunreith to Geo. Butler; consideration nine hundred dollars."
"General Grose of New Castle, Indiana, was arrested last Saturday night [in Richmond] on the charge of visiting a house of ill-fame. He gave bond for his appearance on the 16th instant." Copied from Richmond newspaper.
Samuel A. Lowe died at residence in Franklin Township, Jan. 10, 1871, "after a long and painful illness." Methodist minister. "He came to this county from the state of Maryland, 'Old Billy Woolen's' wife being his aunt, and, I think, his only relative then in the West." Left wife and son.

Ann, wife of James Griffin, died of pneumonia at Ogden, Jan. 22, aged about 70 years, more than 40 years resident of Henry County.
Joseph S. Englerth, former resident of Greensboro, now at Tivoli, Blue Earth County, Minnesota. Had visited Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, "looking up his old friends of thirty years ago." Lived in Henry County 24 years.
"The colored citizens of Spiceland are making efforts to build an [AME] church in that village. Mr. Cornelius Goins, a worthy colored man, is soliciting donations for that purpose."
