In the early morning hours, on President's Day, Monday, February 19, 2001, Sgt. Ward was on his normal patrol along Interstate I-70, the main corridor through Henry County, Indiana, when he overheard trucker CB traffic asking if anyone could take two teenagers on farther West. Realizing that these could be the suspected killers of two Dartmouth College Professors in New Hampshire that had been mentioned in a BOL earlier, quick thinking Sgt. Ward answered back "Just drop them off at the truck stop and someone would be along to pick them up". Sgt. Ward radioed for back up and contacted central dispatch for Henry county, IN. Sgt. Ward along with Sheriff's deputies Landon Dean and Chris Newkirk converged on the truck stop and offered the suspected killers a ride to the Henry County, IN jail. This is an indication how well trained and skilled the Henry County, IN Sheriff's Department is. I would like to commend Sgt. Ward, Officers Landon Dean and Chris Newkirk for a job Well Done.
