Joseph Abrams served as a Pvt. in the Union Army from Greenup County, Kentucky.

He served under Capt. John F. Lacey, 22nd Volunteer Infantry, Company C.
Enlisted by Colonel Daniel W. Lindsey at Camp Swigert on the 28th day of October, 1861 to serve 3 years.

Capt. Lacey states, "Joseph Abrams is 53 years old, six feet, two inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair and when enlisted occupation was farmer. The soldier has been unfit for duty during the last twelve months and in my opinion he will never be fit for service again. He has six sons in the United States Service and a helpless family at home."
This was dated 29 March, 1864 and signed by Capt. Lacey at Baton Rouge, La.

Joseph Abrams is certified as incapable of performing duties of a soldier due to general disability and old age. He has done no duty for twelve months and will never be fit for soldiers duty again. He is unfit for service in the Invalid Corps.
This is signed by the Assistant Surgeon in charge, Henry -----------?

Discharged this 18th day of May, 1864, at camp in the field near Symmesport, La.

Lucinda Abrams, age 70, applied for pension, 1st of June, 1878, gives her post office address as Upper Tygart, Kentucky, Carter County. She states that Joseph Abrams died at home in Indiana on the 11th day of March, 1876 of pain in the side.

There were no children under 16 when Joseph Abrams died.

Lucinda gives marriage date as 17 November, 1828 in Madison County, Ky.
Marriage Bond is in Estill County, 17 November, 1830.

Pension claim was witnessed by John Jordan and McKenzie Abrams of Smoky, Ky, Lewis and Carter County.

The stone for Joseph Abrams in Dunreith, Indiana reads, Joseph W. Abrams, Company C, 22nd Infantry.

I, Geneva S. Pettit, visited the cemetery, 13 September, 1996. It is well kept and is located by the Baptist Church on state road 40. The grave is next to the road in the far corner facing north.
