Each slice can be given it's own URL, rollover effect and alt image information. Photoshop, in conjunction with Image Ready, will generate all of the code you need to make the sliced images and links look and work correctly on your web page. The Slice Toolbar      The Slice toolbar has options for setting the height and width of your slice. You can also choose to create slices from document guides that you place on the image.
Slice Select Tool [K] The Slice Select Tool allows you to select any slice in the image. From there you can enter the information for the URL and ALT text.
The Slice Select Toolbar      The Slice Select Toolbar has settings to control how the slices appear. The first set of buttons control the stacking order of the slices. If your slices overlap then you can send the selected slice behind other slices. You can also bring the slice to the front.
Clicking on the Slice Options button will allow you to enter information about the slice. The information you can enter includes the slice type, image/no image, the slice name, the URL that the slice should point to, the target that the url should load into if your are using frames, message text for the slice, information you want displayed in the ALT tag. This box will also show you the dimensions of your slice and the X/Y position in the image. You can also choose the background color of the slice.
Photoshop creates auto-slices to fill the gaps left by user made slices. You can select the auto-slice and then press the Promote To User Slice Button to change it to a user slice.
Clicking the Devide Slice button will allow you to devide the selected slice into smaller slices. You can enter the number of slices as well as the size in pixels of the slices to be made.
Pressing the Hide Auto Slices button will hide the slices that are created by Photoshop to fill the gaps in the user slices.
