The picture is of John Gray, born 1816 in Northampton, North Hampton County, North Carolina and died June 22, 1899 in Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa; Rosanna Meredith, his wife, born January 26, 1824 in Guilford County, North Carolina and died October 19, 1880 in Lynnville, Jasper County, Iowa. They were married July 6, 1845 in Henry County, Indiana. The young girl is Emily Jane Gray, born in 1841 at Greensboro, Henry County, Indiana and was a child by a previous marriage of John Gray. The Meredith family emigrated to Henry County, Indiana in 1829 from New Garden MM, Guilford County, North Carolina. They were Quakers. I am assuming the picture taken around 1847 to 1849 as Emily Jane looks to be somewhere between 6 to 8 years of age. ...Photo courtesy of Tim S. Dupy
